2003 NEWS!!

NOVEMBER 12, 2003:
We had a huge lightning and thunderstorm tonight - being brought up in the prairies when there can be a foot of snow in November, I find that a cool thing about living in Toronto! I came home from the gym and my neighbor, Trevor Mills, was out on the front porch singing in the rain. We got to chatting and he told me Rickie Lee Jones was playing tonight; I told him I hadn't heard. The show had already started, but Trev made a couple calls and wrangled us a couple tickets and off we went (she is a HUGE influence of mine - I've been singing her stuff since I was a teenager!). We missed the first 40 minutes of the show but caught the rest - about an hour! Her voice was in strong and tender form, cut through the night and she had a 9 piece band that were amazing. I can't recall everything that was played (I attempted to kidnap the soundman's setlist at the end of the night, but apparently he needed it for the other shows) I do remember Coolsville, Pirates, Young Blood, Last Chance Texaco, On Saturday Afternoons In 1963. It was a beautiful night - she told great stories - one about a trip she took as a teen to Chatham, Ontario, to connect with some hippies she'd met. I'm so grateful to have been there - thanks Rickie Lee, for the beautiful music, and thanks, Trevor, for getting us in!!

SEPTEMBER 2003: I sang "America the Beautiful" for Jack In the Box commercial that aired on September 11, 2003, sometime around when the Today Show and Good Morning America were on.

MARCH 2003: Taught Blues In the Schools in Toronto for a week - great kids, great fun!

FEBRUARY 2003: I had the honour and privilege of being recorded for Stuart McLean's Vinyl Cafe on Feb. 11, 2003, at the River Run Centre in Guelph. The show is tentatively going to be aired on CBC on March 8 & 9, 2003. My band consisted of Katherine Wheatley (vox & guitar), Wendell Ferguson (guitar), David Matheson (vox, piano & keys), Greg Wyard (vox & bass), Rich Greenspoon (drums), Elana Harte (vox) and Kim Sheppard (vox).

- I was selected to compose a song for CBC's "All For A Song" - the song aired on February 24, 2003 on Sounds Like Canada. "All For a Song features lyrics by Cameron Gilchrist, a cab driver in Winnipeg. In 1994, Cameron penned a song about the tragic death of his ex-partner. Today on Sounds Like Canada, the song comes to life through the music of Suzie Vinnick in Toronto."
